Ulangan 5:31

5:31 But as for you, remain here with me so I can declare to you all the commandments, 4  statutes, and ordinances that you are to teach them, so that they can carry them out in the land I am about to give them.” 5

Ulangan 9:3

Konteks

[4:10]  1 tn The text begins with “(the) day (in) which.” In the Hebrew text v. 10 is subordinate to v. 11, but for stylistic reasons the translation treats v. 10 as an independent clause, necessitating the omission of the subordinating temporal phrase at the beginning of the verse.

[4:10]  2 tn Heb “the Lord.” See note on “he” in 4:3.

[4:10]  3 tn Heb “my words.” See v. 13; in Hebrew the “ten commandments” are the “ten words.”

[5:31]  4 tn Heb “commandment.” The MT actually has the singular (הַמִּצְוָה, hammitsvah), suggesting perhaps that the following terms (חֻקִּים [khuqqim] and מִשְׁפָּטִים [mishpatim]) are in epexegetical apposition to “commandment.” That is, the phrase could be translated “the entire command, namely, the statutes and ordinances.” This would essentially make מִצְוָה (mitsvah) synonymous with תּוֹרָה (torah), the usual term for the whole collection of law.

[5:31]  5 tn Heb “to possess it” (so KJV, ASV); NLT “as their inheritance.”

[9:3]  6 tn Heb “the Lord.” The pronoun has been used in the translation in keeping with contemporary English style to avoid redundancy.

[10:1]  7 tn Or “chest” (so NIV, CEV); NLT “sacred chest”; TEV “wooden box.” This chest was made of acacia wood; it is later known as the ark of the covenant.

[19:9]  8 tn Heb “all this commandment.” This refers here to the entire covenant agreement of the Book of Deuteronomy as encapsulated in the Shema (Deut 6:4-5).

[19:9]  9 tn Heb “commanding”; NAB “which I enjoin on you today.”

[19:9]  10 sn You will add three more cities. Since these are alluded to nowhere else and thus were probably never added, this must be a provision for other cities of refuge should they be needed (cf. v. 8). See P. C. Craigie, Deuteronomy (NICOT), 267.

[28:13]  11 tn Heb “the Lord your God’s.” See note on “he” in 28:8.

[28:13]  12 tn Heb “commanding” (so NRSV); NASB “which I charge you today.”

[31:14]  13 tc The LXX reads “by the door of the tent” in line with v. 10 but also, perhaps, as a reflection of its tendency to avoid over-familiarity with Yahweh and his transcendence.

[31:14]  14 tn Heb “tent of assembly” (מוֹעֵד אֹהֶל, ’ohel moed); this is not always the same as the tabernacle, which is usually called מִשְׁכָּן (mishkan, “dwelling-place”), a reference to its being invested with God’s presence. The “tent of meeting” was erected earlier than the tabernacle and was the place where Yahweh occasionally appeared, especially to Moses (cf. Exod 18:7-16; 33:7-11; Num 11:16, 24, 26; 12:4).

[31:14]  15 tn Heb “I will command him.”
